A BUZZING sound woke Kyle from a deep sleep. He tried to turn toward the offending noise to silence it, but found a mountain of muscle and skin in his way. It took him a moment to remember where he was and who he was with. The mountain shifted, an arm slamming down on the alarm.

“Damn, is it morning already?” Sam turned to face Kyle, not making a motion to get out of bed.

“I’m afraid so.”

“And what would happen if we just stayed in bed for a while?”

“Not much, other than we wouldn’t get unpacked or scout out the neighborhood before we have to navigate it tomorrow.”

“I could live with that.”

Kyle smirked. “I think I could too.” He gave Sam a kiss. “Sorry for passing out on you last night. I wanted our first night together to be a little more intimate than that.”

Sam smiled. “I think we were both exhausted. Don’t worry, we have plenty of nights to be together. Heck, doesn’t even have to be night…. We could do a nooner now and then.”

“Sex in the daytime. I like the way you think.”

Sam kissed Kyle’s forehead. “Let’s get this day started so maybe tonight….”

“Still liking the way you think.”

After a quick breakfast of cereal and juice, they tackled the kitchen first, knowing they would need to start cooking for themselves to save money.

“Hey, look at this!” Kyle sat in the middle of the kitchen and pulled a jar out of a box.

Sam peered around the corner. “What did you find?”

“Your mom’s famous spaghetti sauce. I didn’t know she dropped this in here.”

“Sounds like we’re having pasta tonight.” He looked at the countertop, all covered with various boxed and canned food. “We do have noodles? Parmesan cheese?”

“Yeah, I saw them earlier. I’ll put all that aside for dinner.”

“We should probably plan out meals so we stay on budget.”

Kyle nodded. “And don’t forget, my mom will have us over for a nice meal now and then. Maybe if we budget carefully enough, we could do a nice date night a couple times a month.”

Sam kissed the top of Kyle’s head as he passed by to put a glass in the cabinet. “Sounds good.”

Kyle got up and grabbed a bottle of juice from the fridge. He leaned against the counter, surveying the mess around him. “You excited about tomorrow?”

Sam tossed an empty box out of the kitchen and into the hallway. “Yeah. I know the first few weeks are going to be endless meetings, but we should be into the good stuff by October.”

“I hope you’ll be able to take lunch breaks. I’d like to meet you for lunch once in a while.”

“We’ll see. If I’m on site, you might not be able to come. Construction sites can be dangerous.”

Kyle finished off his juice. “I know. You will be careful, right?”

Sam placed his hand on Kyle’s face. “You know I will.” He turned back to the box Kyle had been working on. “Would you look at that….” He bent over and pulled out another jar.
